Of all of the grievances of the OWS crowd, the debt that students are taking on to get a college degree is the one I can sympathize with the most. Unfortunately, all of the focus appears to be on the debt and not the real problem, the cost of higher education. Why does it cost so much to go to college?
As you would expect, the answer to that is more than a bit elusive and complicated. And like every other issue, you have to wade through cherry-picked statistics and biased studies to try to find an answer. But with the news that higher education debt has exceeded credit card debt in this country and the growing belief that there's a higher education bubble about to burst, it's an issue that needs attention. I've added a new category along those lines for posts on the subject.
