Milo Yiannopoulos was invited by the Berkeley College Republicans(who knew?) to speak at UC Berkeley last night. According to a statement issued by the UC Berkeley Public Affairs office, "a group of about 150 masked agitators" violently interrupted an otherwise peaceful protest and forced the university to cancel the event. The statement also included this:
UC Berkeley officials and UCPD went to extraordinary lengths to plan for this event, working closely with the Berkeley College Republicans and putting the appropriate resources in place to maintain security. Officials were in contact with other university campuses where Yiannopoulos had been asked to speak, and they paid close attention to lessons learned. Dozens of additional police officers were on duty for Wednesday’s scheduled event, and multiple methods of crowd control were in place. Ultimately, and unfortunately, however, it was impossible to maintain order given the level of threat, disruption and organized violence.
Extraordinary lengths? Really? So extraordinary that 150 assholes could shut down an ordinary political event and not one of them was arrested?
Bullshit. "UC Berkeley officials and UCPD" are nothing but cowards. Fucking cowards. 150 thugs showed up and they retreated rather than fight for civil society. They stood around and watched as the assholes successfully trampled on the First Amendment rights of the people who organized and wanted to attend Yiannopoulos' speech. Fucking cowards.
If the police won't do their jobs and protect the rights of the people then the people will eventually do it themselves. And they are not going to be nice about it.
