Someone has taken some old pictures of students and staff at a Detroit high school and superimposed them onto pictures of the school before it was demolished in 2011. Initially I took it as another haunting example of Detroit's decay, but a little checking shows that isn't quite fair in this case. The school was moved into a new building adjacent to the old one in 2004, and then a fire severely damaged parts of the building in 2007. I believe the photos were taken some time after that.
A little trivia: The school is named after Lewis Cass, who was the territorial governor of Michigan from 1813 to 1831. A good chunk of Minnesota was part of the Michigan Territory at that time and Cass figured prominently in its early history. Cass County, MN was named after him. Unfortunately for Cass, one of the reasons he is remembered today is the expedition he led in 1820 that attempted to find the source of the Mississippi. He and his team wrongly identified what subsequently was named Cass Lake. However, as every properly schooled Minnesotan knows, the real source of the Mississippi, Lake Itasca, was identified by Henry Schoolcraft in 1832.
