I'm going with Menendez, in the bedroom, with the underage hooker.
Sen. Menendez has cleaned up the travel part of his jaunts to the Dominican Republic by finally disclosing the rides on the private jet and reimbursing the campaign donor who organized it all. The campaign donor who was just raided by the FBI. As sleazy as the belated housekeeping is though, that's Senate Ethics Committee stuff. I'm pretty sure that's not what the FBI is going after.
Some yet undisclosed bribery probe could be what the FBI is focusing on, but it seems more likely that it's the growing smoke around allegations that Menendez engaged in sex acts with prostitutes under the age of 18 on those trips. Prostitution is legal in the Dominican Republic, but the PROTECT Act of 2003, which Menendez voted for when he was in the House, prohibits any American from engaging in "commercial" sex with any person under 18. If convicted, one can get 30 years in prison.
30 years. While I indulged in a little cracking wise above, that's sobering stuff and Democrats as well as Republicans should take the possibility seriously. The feds have convicted at least 99 Americans for having sex overseas in ways that violated that law and they are rather proud of it. I expect the exact same enthusiasm for finding the truth and prosecuting any violations in the case of Sen. Menendez.
Innocent until proved guilty, of course. It's possible that Menendez didn't even engage in somewhat sordid conduct let alone illegal. I'll do what so many of the shrieking harpies of the left don't when it comes to their political opponents and give him the benefit of the doubt for now. However, the issue needs to be investigated and prosecuted exactly the same way it would be for any average American. I'm getting awfully damned tired of one set of laws for the masses and one set for the people with juice.
