I've got this nagging feeling that I'm supposed to be doing something this afternoon, but what is it? Is there some event I'm supposed to attend? Is there a party to go to? What could it be?
Fox Sports North announced Wednesday that it will become the Minnesota Twins' exclusive home, which means the end of weekend games on broadcast channel WFTC, Ch. 29.
Yeah, I'm still pretty irked about that. I paid almost no attention to spring training this year because of it. Maybe I'll get over it in the next few months, after all I did come back in 1995 after the lost 1994 season. It feels worse this time though, and in a more personal way. I think it's the callous indifference toward the fans who relied on the local broadcasts as their only way to watch the Twins on a regular basis. They can try to pretty it up with words about trends and inevitability and such, but really they just didn't give a shit about those fans.
Well, what's done is done. I can't help but notice though, that the Twins are off to a bit of a shaky start this season. The game I would have watched this afternoon is an attempt to avoid a sweep by Toronto. Hmmm, do I smell a curse? I'll be upfront and say that I don't have the mojo to lay that on them, but that doesn't mean that some other aggrieved fan can't do the "pox on you" thing.
"The 2011 Twins Broadcast Curse." We'll have to see how things develop, not that I'm wishing any curses on the team. I'm unhappy, not vindictive. But hey, maybe I've figured out a reason to follow them after all.
