About three weeks ago I was thinking we might see the ice go out on the local lakes a bit early this year. Since I opened my yap we naturally then got two weeks of unseasonably cold weather. The time has finally arrived though, right about at the average.
Below is Wirth Lake on the western edge of Minneapolis. It still had ice on Friday, but is ice-free today. I'm guessing it went out yesterday afternoon or overnight.
Just about a mile south of there, the ice is barely hanging on in Cedar Lake.
The wind today and possible thunderstorms tonight will most likely ensure that that ice doesn't make it through tomorrow.
Winter. Is. Over.
