I'm out in Long Beach, Ca this week, enjoying the wonderful lack of snow and cold that the folks back home are getting. A couple of people complained about the cool weather here over the weekend and then got all sheepish when they found out where I was from, but I understand. It's all what you are used to.
Mom flew out with me and is also enjoying the nice weather. She is still moving around with a cane for balance, but she is able to move around much better than last Christmas when she was out here(knock on wood).
My nephew turned five over the weekend and Mom and I tagged along as his mom and dad treated him and his friend from next door to an afternoon show at Medieval Times. My nephew has been on a knight kick for more than a year now, so it was an awesome show for him and his buddy. It wasn't too bad for an adult either, so long as one can still channel the inner child and get into it. The fights were not exactly world class choreography, but with the lighting and the costumes they didn't have to be to work for a child. Some people had to watch the NFL Pro Bowl instead, at least partly, so I'm pretty certain I got the better end of that deal. It seemed a bit pricey, but the food was decent and the kids had a spectacular time. If you go, be prepared for the photographers and the vendors selling everything from kid's swords to flags, all at extremely inflated prices of course.
On Saturday we got to see nephew move up a class in weekend gymnastics. He was in a coed tots class and now he has moved on to the all boys ages 5-6 group. I was pretty enthused that everything went so well for him but then I had to quickly tone it down as I was somewhat bluntly told it was no big deal. Heh.
I've picked up a cold here but that hasn't stopped me from moving around yet. I'm not sure if I'm beating it or it is getting the better of me. Last night was a rough night for sleeping, though I feel pretty good now. Sis and her husband are not much for drinking so I've had little alcohol the last few days and I haven't tried my usual cure, which is a big meal, a couple of bumps of whiskey, and a good night's sleep. It might be too late for that now, but perhaps I'll hit one of the bars down the block tonight and give it a shot anyway.
Now that the big birthday stuff is out of the way it will be time for some sightseeing, a little long distance work, and maybe some more regular posting.
