Police were able to free that kidnapped girl in Ohio on Sunday, but her mother, brother, and one other woman are still missing. In reading news accounts the last few days, I've noticed that a weird phrase keeps showing up and yet nobody in the media seems to be questioning it. Story after story says, "an unusual amount of blood" was found in the family's home. Isn't that odd? Wouldn't you expect them to say "a large amount" or "some amount"? Is there ever a "usual amount of blood" in a home? No, of course not. At least i would hope not. So is "unusual" a euphemism here for gruesome and the news media is hoping we don't notice? Or is it just more sloppiness on their part?
