I reluctantly post this on the murder of Dr. George Tiller mainly so I can go on the record as condemning it. Frankly, everything about this sickens me.
Like it or not, what he was doing was legal. Resorting to murder to stop him was an abomination, as was shooting him down in a church of all places. Solving the differences in our society at the point of a gun must be condemned, or there is nothing left but madness.
The cynical use of this crime to try to shut down thoughtful and peaceful opponents of abortion also sickens me, as does the barely concealed glee of those who comment that Tiller got what he deserved. Black little hearts all, and in moments like these we should note who is saying what, who is exposing their ugly face, and store that info for future reference.
Was Dr. Tiller a man compassionately serving women facing an agonizing decision, or a man who profited handsomely from pulling babies partly out of the womb and then sucking their brains out? Both, I think. That is part of the problem in sorting out what to think about abortion. About murder though, there can be no doubt. No man has the right to appoint himself judge and executioner in America.
