I had heard that Phillip Carter of Intel Dump fame had been inducted into the BDS Hall of Fame, also known as The Washington Post's blog row, a few days ago and sure enough, there he is. At Wapo he now joins in with such esteemed fellows as Dan "I can't comprehend plain words" Froomkin and William "barkin' mad" Arkin. Judging by his post yesterday on Navy Petty Officer Second Class Michael A. Monsoor, who was just posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, he'll fit right in.
It was a fine post right up until the end, where Carter confirms that he actually is Bush Deranged:
I am deeply disturbed, however, by the White House's unfortunate decision to hold this ceremony on April 8, 2008 -- the same day as the Petraeus and Crocker testimony before Congress. The timing of this ceremony could not have been accidental. It was clearly a political maneuver; an attempt to leverage the personal valor of Petty Officer Monsoor for political gain. That is wrong. Petty Officer Monsoor's sacrifice and valor are worthy of their own day -- not one designed for maximum political advantage.
I suppose it's entirely possible that the White House was playing politics here, but watching the clip of the very moving ceremony honoring Petty Officer Monsoor I got no sense of that. Quite the opposite actually. And it didn't even occur to me to link the testimony of Petraeus and Crocker to that ceremony until Carter himself brought it up. But I guess one sees what one is determined to see. There is someone playing politics here for sure, and if Mr. Carter wants to see who it is, he need only go as far as the closest mirror.
Congratulations, Mr. Carter. You're home.
