It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. We'll get a little more snow tonight and another Arctic air blast is heading our way for the weekend, but they're losing their strength to the now ascendant sun. The low Saturday morning will maybe hit -1 instead of the -10 lower we saw earlier. Our recent snowfalls have pushed us to a little over an inch over normal for the season and 17" higher than last year at this time. I can't say our dry spell is totally over, but the temp and precipitation patterns this year are more like normal than last year. Fingers crossed that they continue.
Didn't watch the SOTU last night. Didn't yell at the TV either. It's possible those two things are related.
Good news! A Dr. John Chan from Korea has emailed me and wants to give me millions of dollars. Jealous?
Twins pitchers and catchers officially reported to spring training yesterday. Here's the baseline for the rotation going into Ft. Myers:
At first glance it looks like Scott Diamond and Vance Worley are the two guys most likely to anchor the front side of the rotation, with Mike Pelfrey and Kevin Correia likely to slide into the three and four spots.
Not as bad as it looks at first glance, but we'll see how it progresses. I have no idea at this point what the Twins are going to do with their ongoing infield saga.
I thought about it again this year, but I'm still not quite ready for the Grumpy Old Man Festival, even though it's the 20th year celebration. Four more years of Obama will probably seal the deal at some point though.
I can't imagine being one of three or four thousand trapped on a disabled cruise ship that was days away from port. Even though there seems to be some dispute about how bad the conditions are onboard, I'm leaning toward nightmare. I've thought about doing a cruise someday, but as the ships have gotten bigger that seems less attractive even when nothing goes wrong. Who wants to be part of a herd of 4,000 descending on some port? I think I would rather save up for something along one of these smaller cruise ships. The freighter cruise thing has crossed my mind too, for when I'm independently wealthy. Hahaha, I know.
It appears that Christopher Dorner's killing spree and life are both over. As I, and many others figured last week, that was how it was most likely to end. I'm sorry to see another officer killed in the process. Even if Dorner had been screwed by the LAPD, it was no justification for murder. As hard as it may be, sometimes justice on this earth isn't possible and you have to trust in God and just let things go.
Looks like the Anonymous threat to block internet streaming of the SOTU failed completely. I'm curious if the threat was real and if any actual attempt was made. I probably have my own two cents to put out there about what Obama said about cybersecurity, when I take time to read what he said.
