I put one of those 4" deep Gladware bowls out last night before the predicted big rains came. I wanted to see if we really got the 1-2" of rain that was in the forecast. Well, we got that and then some. That bowl was full this morning when I checked it and I'm pretty sure we have received at least another inch of rain so far today. I'll have to check when I get home.
All of this rain is good for the most part, especially as it has reached the parts of northeastern Minnesota that have been experiencing near-drought conditions. But there can be too much of a good thing. It looks like there is at least a chance of rain everyday through next Wednesday. The only place for more rain to go at this point is run off, because the ground is definitely saturated around here. There's still a ways to go before we need to be worried about serious flooding here or south down the Mississippi. We're fast approaching the point where some people will have to start paying attention though.
I don't want to complain about rain having lived through a drought or two, but c'mon, give us a couple of dry days here, eh?
Oh, and want a great moment in great timing? The local paper put out an article yesterday on "Ways to water less. "
