I sometimes cringe when I see national news outlets do feature stories about Minnesota, especially in the winter. More often than not they seem to have a sort of "East Coast expedition into the exotic heartland" attitude that comes across as a bit condescending. So yeah, I cringed a little bit when this morning I heard Matt Lauer say that an upcoming segment by Tiki Barber was about ice fishing in Minnesota. It actually didn't turn out too bad though:
They could have spent a little more time on the inside of the ice houses, because that is where you will find the sane people, but oh well. There's an open invite to any of you regulars that if you come up here in the winter(and the ice is safe, of course), I'll take you out ice fishing. And I promise that I won't sit you on a 5 gal. bucket outside, but in a nice and warm ice house. One that we can both fish and play a comfortable game of cards or two in. That's how you go ice fishing in Minnesota.
