I've been mostly absent the last month and a good part of the reason for that has been a new website I've been working on. Actually, a big chunk of that time hasn't been spent on the website as much as dealing with some technical issues(resolved) and scintillating stuff like a system for properly accounting for sales taxes. I got surprised by that last one when I learned that there are 19 different counties and municipalities that have their own sales tax on top of the state sales tax. This opened a big can of worms, but more on that later. What I need now are two or three volunteers to help me get a customer's perspective on the website. It would be greatly appreciated and hopefully kind of fun for whomever.
The company I've been working for focuses on custom banners and other custom printed fabric products. They have had a line of standard sized yet personalized products for years, but tried to market them through retail outlets and a dead-tree order form and they really haven't gone very far. Part of my job has been to revive that standard product line and come up with a new way to market it and then also expand the types of products. We have one line of products, banners for special events, on-line now and will be adding table runners soon. This website is kind of like cafepress in that you can upload an image and add personalized copy. This is where the help wanted comes in.
I'd like to get some feedback from a site users perspective on the look and functionality of the website. One of the biggest things issues, I think, is how to get the right quality of photo and cropping etc. There currently aren't tools on the website to edit an image so that has to be done by the customer first. Along those lines, I'm also going to add another blog to my Typepad account as a place to direct people for tips and hints on how to do basic photo editing. Any volunteer comments would help to start that off. The site is live now, but I'd like to get the feedback and tweak what we need to before we start aggressively marketing it.
In return for helping us with this, we'll do one of the banners you create for free. If anyone is interested just leave me a comment to this post or shoot me an email and I'll point you to the website.
