I hope everyone had a good holiday. The fishing season started off well for me this weekend. Some friends and I spent yesterday on a river in northern Minnesota and got into the fish pretty good. We also had the river to ourselves, not one other boat was out. This is because there aren't good access points on that part of the river, and it's also pretty shallow and rocky in spots. If you don't know what you are doing it's easy to lose a prop or otherwise damage a boat or motor.
My buddy Pat does know the river and we had a great time. I missed on first fish and by a whisker on biggest fish, but I did manage to claim the money for most fish, with 7 brought in the boat. Between the three of us we nailed about 18, missed a half a dozen more, and kept 6 for dinner on Sunday. It was almost all Northern Pike, with one small walleye brought in by yours truly. They weren't the biggest Northerns I've ever seen but we kept a few that had enough size to be good eaters.
Beyond that, Sammy got to run around, we had a couple of nice fires once it cooled off in the evening, and an all-around good time was had by all.
Pics in the extended post.
